Dhaka— The first semifinal of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup was stopped due to rain when New Zealand was batting against two time champions India at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on Tuesday.
A record four matches of the ongoing World Cup were washed out due to rain.
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 211 for 5 in 46.1 overs before rain interrupted the match.
The match will resume with curtailed overs if the waiting lasts for more than two hours.
If New Zealand do not bat any further and India get at least 46 overs to chase, then their target will be 237 runs.
However, the match referee will take all necessary steps to finish the game today (Tuesday).
But if the rain continues, the match will be resume Wednesday as every knockout game of the World Cup has a reserve day. If there is no result in the match day and reserve day, then the top team of the league stage will reach the final.
India are in a better position. If the game resumes today, India will get a comfortable target to chase.
At the end of the league stage game, India topped the list with 15 points from nine matches with seven wins, one defeat and one washed-out game.
On the other hand, New Zealand finished 4th after the league stage securing 11 points.
If the final match fails to produce any result on the schedule and reserve day, then both the finalists will be declared joints champions for the first time in the history of the ICC World Cup.UNB
