Unidentified miscreants vandalised five idols at a Hindu temple in Madaripur’s Shibchar Upazila on Thursday morning.The priest of Bhadrason Harisava Temple found the broken idols in the morning when he went to offer prayers.
The temple administration’s General Secretary Swapan Pal said the miscreants took away many parts of several idols from the temple.
Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masududdin Khan confirmed the vandalism and said police have arrived at the temple.
An investigation was already underway, he said.
The Hindu community in the area have expressed frustration over the incident.
Shibchar Puja Udjapon Parishad and Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad have condemned the attack on the temple.
Many Hindu temples have been vandalised in recent times across the country in a wake of string of such attacks specially during agitation by Jamaat-e-Islami over the war crimes verdicts of their leaders. (Sources: bdnews24.com)
