Improving social practice for ensuring child rights stressed

Speakers at a workshop here have called for further improving social practice to ensure rights of all children, including girl children, for their normal growth, education and flourishing talents.The today’s children will lead the nation in future and every child has the right to get congenial atmosphere and facilities for safety, security, education, health care, foods, nutrition and shelter as per the UN Charter for children rights, they said.They were addressing inaugural ceremony of a two-day workshop on ‘Changing Social Practice about Child Marriage, Child Labour, Physical and Mental Torture on Children’ arranged at the conference room of a local hotel here on Wednesday.The District Women Affairs Office has been organising the workshop with the assistance of the Communication for Development (C4D) and Child Protection Sections of UNICEF Bangladesh with Enabling Environment for Child Rights (EECR) Project of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.  Additional Deputy Commissioner (Human Resource Development) and Acting Deputy Director (Local Government) Shahidul Islam attended the ceremony and inaugurated the workshop the chief guest.Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kabir and District Children Affairs Officer Zahidul Islam attended the ceremony as the special guests with District Women Affairs Officer Shamima Akhter Banu in the chair.Councilors of Rangpur City Corporation, officials from the Social Service Department, officials from different government and non-government organisations, religious leaders, teachers, civil society members and journalists have been participating.The speakers put emphasis on coordinated efforts of all stakeholders for further improving the social practice to eliminate child marriage, child labour and all sorts of torture and abuse on the children in ensuring their universal rights.The chief guest called upon the government and non-government organisations for their concerted efforts to establish rights of every child as per the UN Charter to ensure their education, health care, food, nutrition, shelter and full rights as human being.He stressed for creating awareness in eradicating child marriage, hazardous child labour and torture on children through sincere efforts of all stakeholders to make the government’s efforts of establishing child rights successful in the country. -BSS, Rangpur
