BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said that the country’s independence has has been at stake because of the signing of secret deals with foreign countries ignoring public opinion.
In a statement marking the 38th death anniversary of Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, she said, “The anti-people forces once again snatched people’s all freedom as recognised in democracy grabbing the state power by force.”The BNP chief continued: “The nation’s independence has now been at stake as the country has been pushed towards such a direction by signing secret deals ignoring public opinion.”
She said Bangladesh is coming under attacks one way or the other every day by forces of aggression. “Our land, people and culture have been facing continuous aggression daily.”
Recalling Moulana Bhasani’s role in establishing the rights of oppressed people, Khaleda said he is the source of inspiration of the nation for realising the justif rights of the destitutes and protecting democracy, human rights, independence and sovereignty.
“His (Bhasani’s) patriotism will inspire us for ages to protect the interests of the nation and to be vocal against the enemies of democracy and humanity. We’ll be able to reach our desired goals if we can correctly follow his ideals.”
Describing him as a legend in the struggle against imperialism, colonialism and authoritarianism, the BNP chief said, “The path showed by Moulana Bhasani is our inspiration at this time to resist the hegemonic forces and their local masters, and we’ll be able to defeat them,” Khaleda added.
The 38th death anniversary of ‘Majlum Jananeta’, the leader of the downtrodden, Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani is being observed on Monday with various programmes.
