India to reduce fees for airing private TV channels of BD

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said India has assured that they will reduce the broadcasting fees for Bangladeshi private television channels in their country.

He said this after a meeting with Indian Minister for Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar at the Secretariat.

Mahmud said now BTV is broadcasting by free dish in West Bengal and other parts of India. There are no rules and restrictions regarding Bangladeshi channels in India but private channels can’t be broadcast as Indian cable operators claim high fees.

“We have discussed the issue and the Indian minister assured to reduce the fees to broadcast all our private channels across their country. We also discussed the progress of making a joint-production film on Bangabandhu and an agreement of making a joint-production documentary on Liberation War,” Mahmud added.

Indian Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar came to Bangladesh to attend an environment conference that will be held on Wednesday.
