Insurance regulator held allegedly for taking bribe

DHAKA – Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday caught red-handed a junior officer of Insurance Development and Regularity Authority (IDRA) while receiving Tk 1.5 lakh as bribe.A five member ACC team led by deputy director Moniruzzaman raided in the Hotel Purbani and arrested IDRA officer Md Abdul Motaleb.
The team also arrested Tayeb Mohsin, Bijoynagar Branch Manager of Reliance Insurance Company for providing bribe.
Moniruzzaman told reporters that Abdul Motaleb while visiting Reliance Insurance Company raised allegation of different irregularities and corruption of the company and claimed Tk 2.5 lakh bribe.
The Reliance Insurance Company offered Tk 1.5 lakh and Motaleb agreed on the proposal.
“They fixed Hotel Purbani as venue to transact the money. Tayeb Mohsin went to the hotel to hand over the money. The ACC team then arrested due caught red-handed,” he added.
ACC sources said a case would be lodged with Motijheel Police Station in this connection. – Staff Reporter
