Dhaka – The 12-team Popular Life Insurance 17th Inter-District Women’s Volleyball Tournament begins on Monday at Shaheed Nur Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in Purana Paltan here with four matches billed for the opening day.On the opening day, Rajshahi will take on Jhenaidah at 10 am while Khulna will play Gazipur at 11 am, Rajbari will face Netrakona at 3 pm and holders Pabna will encounter Chattogram at 4:30 pm.
Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary will inaugurate the five-day meet in the afternoon where President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation Mohammad Atiqul Islam will be a special guest.
Managing Director of Popular Life Insurance Company Ltd BM Yousuf Ali will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on July 6.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation Ashiqur Rahman Miku disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association on Sunday.
Chairman of the Women’s Volleyball Committee Syeda Jinnat Ara and Executive Director of the meet’s sponsor M Alamgir Firoz also spoke on the occasion.
Twelve district teams, split into four groups, will compete in the first phase from July 2-3. Later, top two teams from each of the group will play quarterfinals.
Participating teams are:
Group A- Pabna, Kushtia and Chattogram
Group B- Rajshahi, Narail and Jhenidah
Group C- Rajbari, Khagrachhari and Netrakona
Group D – Khulna, Kishoreganj and Gazipur
