Dhaka – A day after they enforced an indefinite strike to press for their seven-point demand, interns at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital postponed their strike on Monday.Interns put on hold their agitation as the hospital authorities assured them of meeting their demands, said Dr Samir Hossain, president of Bogra unit of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad.The doctors went on the strike on Sunday to press home their demands, including taking action against a patient’s relatives for their alleged misconduct and assault on their fellows and ensuring their security measures.The strike for the 2nd consecutive day inflicted untold sufferings on patients.Sources at the hospital said the patient, Alauddin Sarkar, 60, of Konagati area of Sirajganj was admitted to the hospital on Saturday midnight.There had been an altercation between his son Rauf Sarkar and intern Najer Uddin around 11:30am on Sunday over switching on a fan in room No 475 of the hospital.At one stage, the intern beat Rauf. Later, other interns joined him, took the youth to a room and beat him further.They also locked the emergency unit of the hospital and went on a wildcat indefinite strike claiming that patients’ relatives ‘misbehaved’ with them and ‘attacked’ them.UNB agency
