IO testifies in August 21 grenade attack case

Dhaka – Of the total of 511 witnesses, 225 including the Investigation Officer of the case, testified in the August 21 grenade attack case till Monday.Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka on Monday recorded the depositions of Special Police Super of CID, Abdul Kahar Akand, who is the Investigation Officer of the case. Later, the court fixed October 4, to record the depositions of more witnesses. The tribunal sat at the make shift court set up in front of the old central jail.
The August 21 grenade attack of 2004 caused the death of 24 people including the then Women Awami Secretary Ivy Rahman and more than 300 others were injured injured in the incident. Incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who was then the Leader of the Opposition narrowly escaped the attack that occurred at a rally of Awami League in front of its central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. – Special Correspondent
