Islamic Foundation Narsingdi unit distributed Zakat materials and cheques worth Tk 10,18,127 from government Zakat fund among 155 destitute men, women and poor students of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Hena Morshed Zaman distributed the Zakat in a simple function held at his office conference room on Wednesday.
With Deputy Director, Islamic Foundation Narsingdi Mohammad Abu Taher Siddique in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Convener of the District Zakat Committee Khandaker Nural Hoque addressed as special guest.
The distribution function was addressed among others by Khatib of Sadar upazila mosque Moulana Atik Ullah and Moulana Sultan Uddin Nori.
Nirbahi officers of Sadar, Raipura, Polash and Monohardi Upazilas and a number of local journalists were present at the distribution function.
Office sources said 75 sewing machines each worth Taka 6,300 and 15 rickshaw vans each worth Tk 16,000 were distributed among 90 destitute men and women of five upazilas of the district.
Besides, 15 persons got Tk 4,000 each as zakat allowance while 4 got Tk 5,000 each as medical allowance. Three persons got Tk 3,000 each for poultry rearing. One person was given Tk 5,000 for house repairing while 12 got Tk 5,000 each for small business.
A total of 30 poor students also got Tk 4,000 each for their education.
