IT parks to be set up in country’s 7 cities

Information and Communication Technology Ministry has taken long term initiatives improving quality and infrastructural development of ICT sector of the country.Secretary of the ministry Nazrul Islam Khan made the disclosure while addressing an open discussion at Bandsdoc Conference Hall at IDB Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.

He told his audience that the government has planned to take district based initiatives to produce skilled professionals.

In the meeting, the secretary said, “India has moved a long way under private-public partnership initiatives whereas Bangladesh is still lagging behind.”

He added that development in the ICT sector without improving infrastructure, investment friendly environment and efficient workers is not possible.

NI Khan also said special initiatives have been taken for Kaliakoir and Janata Tower to make them suitable for Software Park.

“The incumbent government is making second submarine cable connection through Barisal and Patuakhali,” he said.

Besides, Managing Director of Infrastructure Investment Facilitation Centre (IIFC) Nazrul Islam said that IIFC has been working in the country for 14 years in an investment friendly condition.

He added: “Bangladesh has to work with a long term plan to establish IT parks like India.”

ICT ministry has taken a policy to establish ‘IT Village’ in the Mohakhali area of the capital.

A long term plan has been taken to build IT parks in Jessore, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur beside the capital, he said.banglanews24.com
