The 10th Parliament has been formed through distorted interpretation of the Constitution, the BNP says, calling its members ‘clowns’.
“A Parliament has been installed when another is in effect and a cabinet when another is in force,” said party’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday evening.
His comments came after the new Parliament sat in its maiden session at 6pm. “The wise have termed the Parliament the one of clowns,” he went on at a press briefing att the party chief’s office at Gulshan.The Awami League formed the second successive government after winning an absolute majority in the 10th parliamentary election the BNP and its allies had stayed away from.
The BNP had took out the black flag procession across Bangladesh protesting against the sitting of the first session of the new Parliament formed through the ‘one-sided’ Jan 5 election.
The party, however, had no programme centrally as it had failed to obtain the police permission in the capital.
Calling the Jan 5 election ‘farcical’, the party’s spokesperson Fakhrul said, “People did not cast their votes in this election. We believe only five percent people cast their votes.”
“A total of 153 candidates were elected unopposed before the election was held for 147 seats.”
“The so-called MPs were elected through a distorted interpretation of the Constitutional.”
Replying to a media query, he claimed “no state” had recognised this government. “As far as I know western states have stated upset over the Jan 5 election.”
Many countries and organizations have recognised Hasina’s government, including China, India and the OIC.

He said, “The number of enforced disappearances and crossfire killings has broken all records. One corpse was found at Dhaka University yesterday (Monday) and another at Pallabi.
“The number of corpses is thus going up by the day.”
About the 19-Party alliance’s movement, Fakhrul said there was no ‘timeframe’.
“When and how will the movement go ahead depends on the behaviour of the government. We have demanded a fair and acceptable election as soon as it is possible.”
“Our movement will go on with this target in mind.”
He claimed that the BNP was enforcing programmes consciously avoiding clashes and conflict to build public opinion.
Asked whether it was a defeat for the BNP and its allies as the government held the Jan 5 election despite their boycott, Fakhrul said, “Parliament that has been formed thorough killing people deserves no credit.”
The senior BNP leader continued, “We believe the Awami League has been defeated through this farcical election. They have become politically and morally bankrupt.” – bdnews24.com
