Jamaat-Shibir behind militant acts, says Hanif

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Wednesday alleged that it is actually Jamaat-Shibir who is carrying out militant activities in the name of international outfits like Islamic State, al-Qaeda and Taliban. “There’s no militant organisation named IS, al-Qaeda and Taliban in Bangladesh. Jamaat-Shibir men are carrying out militant activities one after another using the names of international organisations,” he said. “If militant activity is to be stopped, Jamaat-Shibir must be eradicated,” he added. The AL leader came up with the allegation while addressing an ‘anti-terrorism and militancy workshop’ organised by Islamic Foundation, Bagerhat. Bagerhat, UNB News Agency Reported.

Hanif noted that most of the arrestees in connection with incidents — from the Gulshan attack to all the killings, including that of the priests and preachers — are leaders and activists of Shibir. Terming Jamaat a ‘religious terrorist political party’, he said the party has been carrying out terrorist activities at different times under different names. Over 100 khatibs, imams, teachers from nine upazilas of the district took part in the workshop chaired by Additional District Magistrate Md Ajmul Haque.
