Jamaat stages protest demo today, M’singh Ameer held

DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will stage protest demonstration across the country on today as the government has approved the draft of voter list keeping provision to exclude the names of convicted war criminals.
Jamaat acting secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan made the disclosure while talking to journalists on Tuesday.
He said Jamaat would stage the programme demanding cancellation of the provision.
He also claimed government took the decision to keep away Jamaat from the election.
On Monday, the government approved the draft of Voter List (2nd Amendment)-2013 keeping provision to exclude the names of convicted war criminals from voter list.
As per the amendment, the convicted war criminals could not be voters anymore and their name will be excluded from existing list.
Meanwhile, members of law enforcement agency arrested Gauripur upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abu Bakkar Siddque on charge of sabotage during hartal.
He was arrested from Kaltapara Bazar area of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Officer-in-Charge of Gauripur Thana Hamidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
On the other hand, district Jamaat secretary Abdul Karim demanded immediate release of Abu Bakar Siddque in a statement.
