Dr. Atiur Rahman, governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB), has had fruitful meeting with Seiji Kihara, vice
minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan. The Japanese vice minister appreciated BB’s proactive role in resolving issues raised by Japanese investors in Bangladesh. He mentioned that such steps would surely help enhance opportunity for increased Japanese investment in Bangladesh.In response the BB Governor outlined recent socioeconomic as well as political developments that have taken place in Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman indicated Bangladesh Government’s desire to join in Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
He also mentioned that Bangladesh is highly appreciative of Japanese support in this regard. Dr. Rahman is
currently visiting Japan on invitation of the Japanese Government. During this meeting Dr. Rahman was accompanied by Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Mr. Abdul Haque, Adviser, Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) and Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank. BB Governor in his first leg of Japan visit also had a meeting with Mr. Ichiro Tsukada, Member of the House of Councillors of Japan, who emphasized the development of infrastructure for accelerating economic development and inflow of Japanese FDIs in Bangladesh’.
In the meeting with Mr. Kurauchi, Dy Chief Executive of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, BB Governor highlighted all the recent liberalizations that Bangladesh Bank has adopted in facilitating foreign direct and portfolio investments which were highly appreciated. Dr. Rahman’s meeting with JICA, the issues of linking Bangladesh to regional/global supply chains by participating in the RCEP were discussed. BB Governor acknowledged gratefully the Japanese contribution in Bangladesh’s social and physical infrastructure development.
