The three-week Jasim Pollimela (village fair) jointly organised by Faridpur Jasim Foundation and district administration marking the 111th birth anniversary of the folk poet Jasimuddin concluded last evening here on the premises of poet’s ancestral home at Gobindapur in the outskirts of the town.
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner M Zillar Rahman was the chief guest in the concluding function held at the ‘Jasim Mancha’ while Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur M Abu Hena Morshed Zaman also president of Jasim Foundation was in the chair.DC of Dhaka SK M Yusuf Haroon, DC of Rajbari Hasanuzzaman Kollol, Police Super M Zamil Hassan, Faridpur Pourasabha Mayor SK Mahatab Ali Methu, Zilla Parishad administrator Kazi Zainul Abedin and Awami League advisory council member SM Nurunnabi were special guests in the closing function of the Pollimela.Addressing the function as the chief guest Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman stressed the need for preserving our traditional cultural heritage for national progress and identity. The ‘Pollimela’ would soon take the shape and status of national fair, he added.DC of Faridpur Morshed Zaman disclosed that the construction work of
‘Jasim Complex’, a research oriented project under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs that began in 2010 at Taka 16 crore, is nearing completion.The complex being built adjacent to poet’s ancestral home will have a rich library, dormitory, research facilities and some relics of the used materials of the poet will be preserved there. The unpublished works of the poet will also be published, the DC said.About two hundred display and selling outlets were set up in the fortnight long fair where all varieties of handicrafts were available. Besides various sources of amusements and recreations including circus
shows and cultural functions were arranged.It may be mentioned here that the fair was inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzamn Noor on January 25 last when Overseas Employment and Expatriate Welfare Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain was the chief guest. -BSS, Faridpur
