A suspected robber was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police at Ghorachhara area in Kulaura upazila of Mouvibazar district early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Babul, 30.Tipped off that a gang of robbers are preparing for committing robbery there, a team of police of Kulaura thana conducted a drive in a rubber garden in the area around 4:30 am.Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fired on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back which triggered a gunfight.Police said Babul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Two constables- Bazlul Karim, 46, and Habibur Rahman, 48-were also injured during the gunfight.Police recovered a one-barrel gun, two rounds of bullets, several sharp weapons and a grill cutting machine from the spot.Aklima Akhtar, an assistant sub-inspector of Kulaura Police Station, confirmed the incident. -UNB, Sylhet
