Jatiya Oikya Front gives prison people list of 5 leaders to see Khaleda

Dhaka, Nov 17 – Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front, where the BNP is a major partner, yesterday forwarded names of its five leaders to prison authorities dropping the name of top leader Dr Kamal Hossain to meet BNP’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia. The five Oikya Front leaders whose names were sent to jail authorities are president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal ASM Abdur Rab, Tania Rab, and convenor of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, founder of Gano Shasthya Kendra Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and general secretary of Ganaforum Dr Reza Kibria.
The Oikya Front yesterday sent a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP, prisons) seeking appointment to meet the former premier who is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The letter signed by its office secretary Jahangir Alam Mintu was handed over to AIG (prisons) Suraiya Akhter.
It mentioned that former premier Khaleda is very sick and the five Oikya Front leaders want to meet her either today (Monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday) in the first phase.
Earlier on October 21, when an eight-member Oikya Front delegation met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his secretariat office he gave them consent to meet the BNP chairperson who in prison in two graft cases.
After the meeting, JSD leader ASM Abdur Rab told reporters that an Oikya Front delegation led by Dr Kamal Hossain would meet Khaleda.
The delegation also provided a list of nine Oikya Front leaders including Dr Kamal Hossain who wanted to meet the former premier.
When contacted Ganaforum executive president Advocate Subrata Chowdhury mentioned that during the meeting with the Home Minister they have given a list of nine Oikya Front leaders including Dr Kamal Hossain.
“We did not bring any changes in the list. May be a small list has been sent to the jail authority. And Dr Kamal may meet Khaleda later on,” he added. – Staff Reporter
