JCD makes Tarique organisational guardian

AL violated RPO by removing BCL president, secretary, says Rizvi
Dhaka, Sept 17 – The councillors of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Tuesday made BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman the organisational guardian of the student body in absence of Khaleda Zia.The decision was taken at a meeting of JCD councillors of its council 2019, said a press release signed by Chhatra Dal’s Dhaka City East Unit President Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam.
Participants of the meeting announced Tarique as their organizational guardian in absence of Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
As the organisational guardian, Tarique can amend JCD charter, convene and adjourn council, conduct election to select leadership and take any political and organisational decision for the student body’s overhauling and its proper functioning.
The meeting thanked Tarique for dissolving the JCD committee as its tenure expired.
The meeting was held at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office with Enamul Haque Enam in the chair. JCD councilors from across the country attended the meeting.
JCD’s council was scheduled to be held on Sept 14, but a Dhaka court issued an ad interim injunction on it on September 12.
The court passed the order as JCD’s former assistant religious affairs secretary Md Aman Ullah Aman filed a case seeking a permanent injunction on the council.
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Awami League violated the Representation of the People Order (RPO) by removing Chhatra League’s president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani from their posts.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, Rizvi said it is illegal to interfere in Chhatra League’s activities or giving it any order by the Awami League.
He said Awami League can only give Chhatra League suggestions as its brotherly organisation.
The BNP leader questioned why the Election Commission and the court are now silent over the violation of RPO by Awami League. – UNB
