Jessore district unit AL conference today

Jessore wore festive look marking the district unit conference of the ruling party Awami League. The conference is scheduled to be held today, Thursday at Jessore Eidgah. The last conference of the AL was held in 2003.
Mohith Kumar Nath, president, Jessore sadar upazila unit AL told that the expenditure of the conference will be several crore Taka. ‘I never saw such mammoth arrangement in holding the conference of pa party’, he added.
‘I do not know whether the leaders will come out through an election’,he further said.Over 200 archways along with banners and festoons were set up different corners of Jessore town. Archways and festoons and banners were also set up elsewhere in the district, too.Kazi Jafar Ullah, presidium member, AL will inaugurate the conference while Syed Ashraful Islam, general secretary of the party and also LGED minister will be the chief guest. Central leaders of the party-BM Mozammel Haque and Mahbubul Alam Hanif will present at theconference among other.Mir Jahurul Islam, office secretary, Jessore district unit Awami League told New Nation that Prime Minister and also party chief of Awami League, Sheikh Hasina on December 30, 2004 declared the district unit office bearers of the party.‘She declared the names of 55 instead of the full-fledged 71 –member committee. Of the 55, four died, two resigned and one was expelled from the district unit of the ruling party, Mir Jahur added.Party sources said president of the district unit AL and also former lawmaker for Jessore-3, Ali Reza Raju and vice-presidents- Pijush Kanti Bhattachariya, Shahidul Islam Milon and Quamruzzaman Chunnu are vowing to have the post of president. General secretary Shahin Chaklader and Mohith Kumar Nath, president, Jessore sadar upazila unit Awami League, Mostafa Farid Ahmed, president, Juba League, youth wing of the party and other leader of the youth wing Saifuzzaman Pukul were campaigning for the post of general secretary.But the aspirants for the key posts out of the total 71 of the ruling party are doubt about holding of election.
