JMB suspect among 37 held in Satkhira

Dhaka – Police in separate drives from Friday night to Saturday morning arrested 37 people, including a suspected member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from eight upazilas of Satkhira on various charges, including sabotage, Unb news agency reported.
Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain said police conducted separate drives in the eight upazilas and arrested 37 people, including Monwar Hossain Uzzal, an alleged activist of JMB and son of Manir Uddin of Etagachha area of the district town.Among the arrestees, 10 were from Sadar upazila, six from Kalaroa, four from Tala, five from Kaliganj, five from Ashashuni, three from Debhata, two from Patkelghata and two from Shymnagar upazila.
In another incident police arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 30 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Deyarpara area of Magura district town on Friday night.
The arrestee was identified as Monirul Islam, 35, son of Abul Hossain, a resident of Parnanduyali village of Sadar upazila.
Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station, said police arrested Monirul from the area while he was coming to the town along with the drugs for selling at night.
A case was filed in this connection. He has long been involved in drug trading, added the OC.
Detectives arrested one person along with 1.285 kg heroine from the city’s Nikunja area on Friday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Saiful. He was a nephew and partner of Elias who was hanged in China in a case for smuggling 20kg heroine in 2014.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman said tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Saiful in the evening.
DB police also recovered 1.285 kg heroine from his possession. He imported the heroine from Pakistan, the DC added.
Details about the arrestee will be disclosed at a press briefing later.
