Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad in Rangpur on Thursday termed himself as shackled political leader and expressed his helplessness in country’s politics, according to a message received in Dhaka.
“I was never a freed politician and journalists do not understand it. Many people criticise me for my contradictory statements. I have to do politics remaining under pressure. I’m still not a free politician,” he said while talking to journalists at Rangpur Circuit House.Referring to latest development in the political arena including the January 5 elections, Ershad said he wanted to be a Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur to serve people of the district.
“I want to repay the contribution of people in the district and make the party stronger,” he added.
The former President said he is always was a shackled politician and is still not freed.
He also admitted that there is confusion and conflict among the Jaitya Party.
Ersahd also recalled that after quitting power in 1990 he was implicated in 74 cases that declined to two to four.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Jatiya Party leader GM Quader, local leaders Abul Masud Chowdhury Nantu, Salahuddin Quaderi, among others, were present on the occasion.
Ersahd reached Rangpur on a five-day visit and he would return to Dhaka on Monday. – Staff Reporter
