Journo injured in BCL attack following JU women assault

A journalist of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was critically injured and hospitalised after being attacked by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) cadre of JU Unit for protesting harassment of a woman at Wednesday night. The journalist identified as Shafiqul Islam, Jahangirnagar University reporter of bdnews24.com, came under attack and was beaten up brutally. The attack was led by religious secretary of JU BCL, Mohitosh Roy Tito with Akram Uddin Ami of Marketing department, Subrato Kumar Shaha, Ikram Nahid of Statistics, Sifat Ahmed Ratul of Biotechnology and Genetic engineering, Asmussahan Naoraj, Al Amin of Geography and Environment, Biplob Hossain of Botany, Pritom Arif and Faejur Rahman of History department.
Witnesses to the incident Imran Nadim said a couple coming from outside the JU campus was trapped by some BCL men at dairy gate (main entrance) and the woman was harrassed. Shafiq was present at the time and at one stage Mihitosh Roy Tito challenged him as he protested harassment of the woman. Suddenly Tito with his nearly 12 followers started to beating Shafiqul with iron rods and sticks and left him critically injured. Shafiqul was taken to the hospital.
The JU Journalist Association (JUJA) condemned the BCL attack on Shafiq and sought punishment of the attackers.
When conducted the phone of Mohitosh Roy Tito was found switched off. JU Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Shaha said they would take proper step against the culprits after proper investigation.
