JP for interim govt of elected MPs

The Jatiya Party has proposed an interim government made up of elected MPs to the visiting European Union election monitoring team.
JP’s Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader told journalists after nearly an hour-long meeting on Sunday that they had proposed a 10-member interim cabinet of elected representatives.
The chief will be elected from them, he said.
A European Union Election Exploratory Mission arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a visit to see Bangladesh’s preparations for the looming national elections over which major political parties are at loggerheads.
The ruling Awami League, of which Jatiya Party is an ally, scrapped the caretaker government provision that the BNP, which leads the opposition, wants restored.
After the meeting, European Union’s head of delegation in Dhaka William  Hanna said they were ready to help Bangladesh in holding a free and fair election.
Balthasar Benz of the European External Action Service is leading the five-member team that will stay until Sep 23 and meet with political parties, Election Commission and different stakeholders.
They will assess “the feasibility, usefulness and advisability of and to help prepare for a potential Election Observation Mission to Bangladesh, for an appointed period before, during and after the foreseen general election”.
The JP Secretary General claimed the EU delegation was happy with their proposal.
He said they asked them whether dialogue could solve the present crisis.
Howlader said they replied in favour of political dialogues that he said his Chairperson HM Ershad earlier proposed.
Ambassador Hanna said they would meet political parties as part of their effort to see Bangladesh’s next general elections “free and fair”.
He said they would monitor the elections based on their global experiences.
Citing their experience in Nepal elections, he said they had previous experiences in monitoring Bangladesh’s elections.
He said they wanted peaceful democratic environment in Bangladesh and hoped that everybody will help them to this end. Bdnews24.com
