JP to play opposition role truly: Tajul

Opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury on Tuesday said the Jatiya Party will truly play the role of opposition in the 10th parliament, scheduled to begin its journey on Wednesday, by strongly opposing any decision that will go against people’s interest. “We’ll truly play the role of opposition and we’ll fully oppose anything that will go against people’s interest,” he said , talking to reporters after emerging from a meeting of the Jatiya Party MPs held at opposition chief’s Sangsad Bhaban office where he was elected opposition chief whip.   Tajul Islam said that people elected them to take part in parliament sessions and talk in their favour. “We’ll do it and will regularly attend the parliament session to play an active role.”   Replying to a query, he said they expect that Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad will join the parliament on the first day and attend proceedings regularly as he used to do in the past.   Jatiya Party, which won 34 seats in the much-talked-about January 5 polls, boycotted by BNP-led 18-party alliance, is going to play the role of opposition in Parliament for the first time. – UNB
