JS body aks police to explain inaction during Avijit killing

Parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday asked police authority to explain their inaction during attack on blogger Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna.
The standing committee in a meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Tipu Munshi in the chair also asked police to submit a report in this regard within a month.Briefing reporters, the committee chairman said after the killing of Avijit questions were from different quarters including his wife on the role of police.
“That’s we wanted to know elaborately on the matter. Police have been asked to file a report on the matter in the next committee meeting,” he said adding that the incident reportedly took place amid police presence.
Avijit murder was not in the meeting agenda but some committee members sought police’s explanation since allegations were raised from different quarters, according to meeting sources.
Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna were attacked near TSC intersection at Dhaka University on February 26 night. Both of them were hacked with sharp weapons.
Avijit died from profuse bleeding at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital later but his wife survive loosing one her left hand finger.
Meanwhile, DB joint commissioner Monirul Islam told reporters yesterday that they are yet to find any clue to the Avijit murder. – Staff Reporter
