The tests for Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations due for Nov 4 and Nov 6 have been deferred due to the Opposition’s 60-hour strike starting on Monday.
The tests for Nov 4 will take place at 2:15pm on Nov 8.
The examination for Nov 6 will be held at 10am on Nov 9, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told a press briefing on Sunday.
“We have deferred the tests considering the safety of the students,” Nahid said.
JSC students were slated to take the Bangla first paper exam on Nov 4 and for Bangla second paper on Nov 6.
JDC aspirants were to sit for Quran and Tazbid on Nov 4 and Arabic first paper on Nov 6.
The BNP-led 18-Party alliance has called for a countrywide shutdown on Nov 4-6, demanding a non-party government to supervise the polls.
Meanwhile, four examinations under the National University have also been rescheduled due to the strike.
The first-year final of the 2012 batch examination slated for Nov 5 will now take place at 9am on Nov 9, the university said in a media statement on Sunday.
The final-year test for the 2011 batch has been rescheduled to 9am on Nov 7.
The second semester MBA examination of the 2010 batch will be held at 10am on the same day.
BBA second year of the 2012 batch’s fourth semester examination of Nov 6 has been rescheduled to 9am on Nov 7.
Five SSC and equivalent tests were deferred earlier resulting in the rescheduling of exams for 37 papers.
For the HSC and equivalent tests, 41 papers had to be rescheduled due to the Opposition’s shutdowns.
Education minister Nahid said he was “saddened, anxious and angry” by the Opposition plan for a 60-hour shutdown.
On Saturday night, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia agreed to unconditional talks with the ruling Awami League to break the political deadlock.
The schedule for these examinations had been fixed four months ago, he said.
JSC and JDC tests were due from Nov 4 to Nov 20.
A total of 19,02,746 students are expected to take the examinations this year –of them, 10,07,655 are female students.
Of them, 15,87,313 students are taking the JSC and the rest JDC tests.
Creative questions will be introduced in subjects other than the Bangla Second Paper, English First and Second Paper and mathematics.
