JU suspends 3 BCL men for attacking journo

Dhaka – The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authority has suspended temporarily 3 leader and activists of Pro-Awami league Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of JU unit yesterday (Monday) over beating up bdnews24.com journalist. The decisionwas taken at an emergency syndicate meeting, chaired by VC Prof Farzana Islam.The suspended BCL men are secretary, religion of JU BCL, Mohitosh Roy Tito, a master’s student of History department, Akramuddin Ami, final year student of marketing department, Ikram Nahid, 3rd year student of Statistics department, all residents of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.
The syndicate also formed a 5 members inquiry committee for investigate the incident headed by Prof Hafizur Rahman. The committee has asked to submit report in public within 15 working-days.
Prof Farzana Islam said, ‘we have temporarily suspended these BCL men for alleged involvement in the incident, after final report of the inquiry committee we will take next step’.
On June 8 night last BCL led by Mohitosh Roy Tito with about 15 followers beat up Shafiqul Islam, JU reporter of bdnews24.com, at the university dairy gate (main entrance) as he protested the harassment of a couple outside the JU campus. Critically injured Shafiqul was taken to the Enam Madical College. Shafiqul is also joint-secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BSU) of JU unit. – JU Correspondent
