JU suspends five students for assaulting assistant proctor

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University have suspened five students, including a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist, for their alleged involvement in an assaulting of a teacher of the university. The decision was taken at in emmergency syndecate meeting chaird by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam, on Wednesday night. The suspended students are –Foysal Rabbi Riyad, Anik Bala Sonet, Aminur Rahman Taki, Arif Ahmed Mafi and Md Sumon.

They all were students of 41st batch of Marketing Department and Foysal Rabbi Riyad is a JCD activist.

The authorities also formed a five-member committee led by Pro-VC Prof. Abul Hossain to probe the incident and submit its findings within the next seven working days.

Earlier, on January 19, Assistant Proctor Sikdar Md Julkarnain, also a teacher of the archaeology department, was beaten up by the students when he went there to detain Riyad, a Chhatra Dal activist, for allegedly blasting cocktail in front of VC residence. Later, the university administration handed over Riyad and Sonet to police.

JU resistrar Abu Bakr Siddique said that after completing their punishment which was started on February 13, they will attend their class and examination. – JU Correspondent
