JU VC, Juta president receive death threat

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain and JU Teachers’ Association (Juta) president Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder have received death threats on their cell phones.

University sources said Prof Anwar received a text message on his cell phone sent from 01786321251 on Sunday which read that he would be killed on his return to the university campus.   Also in the day, Juta president Prof Ajit Kumar received similar text message from 01744773579.   In another development, police recovered a cracker and a shroud from inside the VC’s residence on Monday morning.   JU registrar Abu Bakar Siddique said they informed the law enforcers about the matter asking them to take legal action against those issued the threats.   However, no general diary (GD) was filed in this connection, the registrar added.   Prof Anwar returned to the university on Monday after a long leave.   In the mean time, agitating JU teachers kept the two Pro-VCs confined to the administrative building for 13 consecutive days demanding immediate VC panel election to replace the incumbent VC Prof Anwar Hossain. – UNB
