Dhaka – BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia will appear in a Dhaka court on Monday in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed in 2008 against six persons, including her and her son Tarique Rahman.Judge Abu Ahmed Jamader of the Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on January 26 fixed January 30 for hearing in the case and asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear in his court on the date.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the graft case on July 3, 2008, with Ramna Model Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, Tarique and four others on the charge of embezzlement of over Tk 2.10 lakh.
Besides, Khaleda Zia has been facing another graft case, filed in 2011 and in that case, on December 1, last year, the court warned her that she will be indicted in absentia in 10 cases filed against her, if she fails to appear in the court.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Sunday issued warrant of arrest against 17 BNP leaders and activists including the party’s Standing Committee Member MK Anwar in a case filed under the Special Power Act.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla of the court passed the order. Among others- Barkot Ullah Bulu, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Shirin Sultana and Azizul Bari Helal were made accused in the case. Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Tapas Kumar Pal informed newsmen that police filed the case in connection with sabotage during shutdown and blockade of January, 2015.
Later, on July 24, last year, police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against 34 BNP-men including MK Anwar. The court issued warrant against 17 accused of the case as they were found fugitives in the case. – Special Correspondent
