Khaleda, Tarique criticised for calling Zia first President

Lawmakers in parliament on Monday sharply criticised the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman for their remarks on country’s first President.
Speaking on the thanks giving motion on President’s speech, the lawmakers alleged that the BNP leaders wanted to turn Bangladesh into a failed state.
Ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdul Matin Khasru told the House BNP had been engaged in spreading propagandas centering the country’s first President.“Who nominated Ziaur Rahman to become the first President? There was no mandate to Zia to become the first President,” he said.
Workers Party lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha alleged that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would want to turn Bangladesh into Pakistan raising questions on the proclamation of independence and maiden President.
“Khaleda Zia is neither mad nor illiterate. She is moving forward with a specific plan. That’s why she is reluctant to accept the freedom fight. She stands against the history between 1952 and 1971,” he said.
Badsha said that BNP chief would demand confederation with Pakistan if she would get proper support from war criminals and Hefazat-e-Islam.
“She wants to turn Bangladesh into Pakistan,” he said, asking the government to show them ways for leaving the country to Pakistan.
Abdul Mannan called upon Khaleda Zia to clear her true role during country’s war of liberation in 1971.
“You should make it clear whether you were under house arrest or busy in serving guests,” he said pointing to BNP chief.
Mannan said that Khaleda Zia had lost both mango and sacks through boycotting January 5 parliamentary polls.
“You have lost the post of opposition leader for your mistake. And, you should think whether you will be able to retain in the post of party chairmanship,” he said.
The lawmaker said that the next election will be held after five years and it will obviously hold under Sheikh Hasina-led government.
AL lawmaker and former minister Hasan Mahmud said that BNP’s politics is based on lies so that they are they are claiming Ziaur Rahman as the maiden president.
Treasury bench lawmaker Abdur Rahman said that Ziaur Rahman was not the first president rather he was the first killer president of the country.
“He had killed hundred of army persons during his regime,” he said.
AKM Awal, another AL lawmaker elected from Pirojpur-1 constituency, said that Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique has been engaged in conspiracies through raising questions about country’s maiden president.
“They are tactfully hatching conspiracies against the government. All the lawmakers should give befitting reply of the propagandas of BNP,” he said.
Awal also compared Tarique Rahman with the thief of Bagdad.
Reserved seat lawmaker Fazilatunnesa Bappi termed Khaleda Zia as lady Laden and said that she would want to implement the agenda of Pakistan.
Bappi said that Khaleda Zia is taking assistance of Jamaat-Shibir and has taken the shape of militants to tarnish the ideologies of independence. – Staff Reporter
