BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia goes to Comilla on Saturday to address the 20-party alliance’s public rally aimed at drumming up public support in favour of their demand for snap polls under a non-party administration.
The BNP chairperson will leave her Gulshan residence around 10:30am for Comilla Circuit House, her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told journalists. Khaleda will address the rally at Comilla Town Hall ground at 3:30pm.The local unit of the BNP-led 20-party combine is organising the rally as part of its countrywide mass campaign to create a solid ground for a decisive movement to force the current administration to quit and arrange a fresh inclusive election.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office alleged that the government is creating obstacles towards holding the public rally in Comilla.
“The government is carrying out various undemocratic activities ahead of Saturday’s rally. The local administration and the ruling party are intimidating our leaders and activists and removing our posters and banners and creating barriers to erecting arches in different parts of Comilla, including Daudkandi and Chandina,” he said.
Rizvi said that huge enthusiasm has been created among the people of Comilla and its adjoining areas over the rally.
This will be Khaleda’s 9th district tour after the January-5 election boycotted by the BNP-led opposition alliance.
Earlier, Khaleda went to Rajbari on March 1, Munshiganj on May 28, Joypurhat on June 22, Brahmanbaria on September 23, Jamalpur on September 27, Nilphamari October 23, Natore on November 1 and Kishoreganj on November 11 and addressed public rallies there. – UNB
