Khaleda urges people to prepare for tougher movement

Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia on Friday called upon the people to get ready for waging a tougher movement to defeat the anti-democratic usurper of power in the voter less elections to safe journey of multi-party democracy in the country.

“The present government never followed the civic norms in its behaviour to the opposition…The people are now determined to remove the burden of new BAKSAL spirit,” she said in a statement issued on Friday to mark what they said Democracy Killing Day.
The BNP observes the day protesting the establishment of one-party BAKSAL government on January 25 in 1975 by bringing amendment to the constitution.
Khaleda said the government cancelled the caretaker government system from the constitution sensing their possible defeat under a free and fair election and snatched the people’s rights of voting.
“Now, they do not hesitate to endanger unity, solidarity and sovereignty of the country to retain to power through farcical polls,” she said.
The former premier said the government reached the hard-earned democracy near its death being rejuvenated by hidden BAKSAL sprit. Democracy and fundamental rights of the people were never been safe in their hands, she added.
She mentioned that former President Ziaur Rahman unlocked the democracy assuming power through sipahi-janata revolution on November 7 in 1975. It began the journey of multi-party democracy ensuring basic rights of the people, she added.- Staff Reporter
