Khaleda visits collapsed Rana Plaza, victims

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday visited the collapsed Rana Plaza and saw for herself the rescue operation and the devastation.She also visited the victims of the incident undergoing treatment at Enam Medical in Savar and consoled them.
Khaleda Zia, also the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, reached the spot around 5:30pm and saw the trail of devastation caused by the eight-storey building collapsed at Savar bus stand on the outskirts of the capital, killing nearly 220 people and injuring over 1,000.
She later went to Enam Medical and talked to some of the injured people, who were rescued from the debris of the building, and their family members.
Khaleda got upset and emotional seeing two young female garment workers undergoing treatment at the hospital with their amputated legs.
The two workers were rescued from the rubbles of the building after cutting their legs off.
The former premier expressed her sympathy to the family members of the two girls with an emotion-choked voice as they narrated their hapless condition.
Khaleda Zia also talked to physicians and enquired about the treatment of the injured people rescued from the debris of Rana Palaza.
Senior BNP leaders, including BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, ASM Hannan Shah, and Abdul Moyeen Khan, vice chairmen Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Selima Rahman and Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, accompanied Khaleda Zia.
Meanwhile, opposition BNP observed Mourning Day on Thursday following the tragedy.
The party hoisted black flags atop all BNP offices across the country and kept the national and party flags at half-mast to mark the day.
Besides, a milad and doa mahfil was held on the ground floor of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office after Asr prayers seeking divine blessings for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the quick recovery of those injured. UNB
