Khaleda Zia asked to appear in eleven cases

Dhaka- A Dhaka court on Sunday passed orders asking BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to appear before it on November 27 in 11 cases including a sedition case filed for her comments about the number of martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971.Of the remaining 10 cases, eight were lodged with Dar-us- Salam Police Station and other two cases were filed with Jatrabari Police Station of the capital in connection with arson attacks on vehicles in 2015.
On January 25, last year, Supreme court lawyer Dr Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi lodged the sedition case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka for her alleged derogatory remarks over the number of martyrs in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
The case statement says that speaking at a discussion on December 21, last year, Khaleda Zia expressed doubts about government claims that nearly three million people had died during the
Liberation War of 1971. She reportedly said, “There is a debate about how many hundreds of thousands were martyred in the Liberation War. Different books give different accounts.” – Special Correspondent
