Dhaka – BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday (Wednesday) filed a petition with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case from the Senior Special Judge’s Court-3 of Dhaka.The petition of the BNP leader prayed to the High Court to stay the trial proceedings against her in the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Earlier, she filed another application with the Senior Special Judge’s Court-3 of Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah for transferring the case to the High Court as Kamrul Hossain Mollah was ACC Director General between 2010 and 2015. But the court rejected her appeal.
The BNP Chairperson yesterday submitted the petition to the High Court challenging the rejection order of April 13. On April 14, Khaleda Zia expressed no-confidence in another judge who was conducting the trial of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Opposing the petition, Public Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajol said the BNP leader had earlier moved a petition with the High Court seeking the transfer of the case to any other court. However, on March 8, the High Court gave an order to transfer the case from the Special Judge Court-3 to the Senior Special Judge’s Court, and asked the latter to dispose of the case within 60 days.
Later, after hearing, Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah fixed April 27 for placing Khaleda Zia's self-defence statements in the case. – Special Correspondent
