Khulna’s traditional boat race with a cheering crowd

The 13th Khulna Boat Race competition was recently held with the participation of thirty boat racers from across the country. The boats were divided into three groups based on their sizes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners were chosen from each group and each was given cash prizes.
So far, Khulna boat racing contest has been successfully conducted in collaboration with Grameenphone for five years. This event was organized by Khulna Nagar Samajik and Sanskriti Kendra and it was supervised by Khulna City Corporation. Millions of people from Khulna and adjoining areas enjoyed the boat racing from the banks of Rupsha river. Apart from this, the event was broadcasted live from the Facebook page of the Grameenphone, for the entire nation.
In this year’s competition, ten large and nine small boat racing teams participated from Koira, Paikgacha, Terokhada, Kaliya, Narail. Also, a special team was formed with eleven boat racers from Gopalganj, Madaripur and Faridpur area.
The winner from the large group who won BDT 1,00,000 is Sundarban Tiger from Koyra, Khulna. The first runner-up who won BDT 60,000 is Bhai Bhai Jolpori from Terokhada, Khulna. And the second runner-up who won BDT 30,000 is Allah Bhorosha from Terokhada, Khulna.
The winner from the small group who won BDT 50,000 is Bhai Bhai Duronta from Paikgacha, Khulna. The first runner-up who won BDT 30,000 is Sonar Tori from Koyra, Khulna. And the second runner-up who won BDT 20,000 is Duranta from Paikgacha, Khulna.
The winner from the special group who won BDT 50,000 is Folia Enterprise from Sonadanga, Khulna. The first runner-up who won BDT 30,000 is Sonar Tori from Kotalipara, Gopalganj. And the second runner-up who won BDT 20,000 is Ma Babar Ashirbad from the same place.
Surrounding the event, a colorful rally was organized in the morning. Mayor, KCC inaugurated the rally. Later, the boat racing competition started at No. 1 Custom Ghat and ended at 5:30 pm. Alhaj Talukder, Mayor, Khulna City Corporation; Md. Awlad Hossain, Head of Khulna Circle; and other officials were present on behalf of Grameenphone. Mollah Maruf Rashid, President; Md. Moniruzzaman Rahim, General Secretary; and others were present from Khulna Nagar Samajik and Sanskriti Kendra.
Md. Awlad Hossain from Grameenphone said, “Grameenphone has always been the patron of the culture and heritage of Bangladesh. Grameenphone thinks that there is a great deal of culture and tradition in the development of a country. As a partner in the development of Bangladesh, Grameenphone has always extended its cooperation to such events.” Mollah Maruf Rashid from Khulna Nagar Samajik and Sanskriti Kendra said, “The country will survive if you save the river – we are working with this slogan for a long time. Let us love the river, and let’s keep the river well.”
