Army graveyard turned down, Koko’s burial at Banani

The application seeking for the burial of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of late President Ziaur Rahman, also a former army chief, and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, at Banani Army Graveyard in the capital was turned down by the authorities on Tuesday.
Kalyan Party chairman Maj Gen (retd) M Ibrahim said this on behalf of the BNP-led 20-party alliance at a press briefing at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan political office. He, however, did not elaborate the ground of the denial on the application.
“We are disheartened that despite fulfilling all the criteria, we were not given the permission to bury the body (of Koko) at the army graveyard,” he said.
M Ibrahim also noted that BNP senior leaders will sit for a meeting to decide on the burial later.
BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (retd0 Mahbubur Rahman said he had been communicating with all the authorities concerned for getting the permission for burying Koko’s body at Banani Army Graveyard.
“We’re yet to get any positive response,” he said.  -UNB
