Krishibid Day observed at BAU amid festivity

Mymensingh, Feb 13 – Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and BAU alumni association jointly observed Krishibid Day on Wednesday at the Bangabandhu smritty chattar with much enthusiasm and festivity.
The day inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque giving floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait, hoisted the national flag at the helipad, releasing balloons and pigeons. Then a colourful rally started from helipad which ended at Bangabandhu Smirity Chattar.
After the rally, a seminar titled ‘Modern Agriculture for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)’ was held at Bangabandhu Smirity Chattar. In that discussion meeting, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque attended as chief guest while Fisheries and Livestock state minister Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru and Bogura-1 MP Krishibid Abdul Mannan attended as special guest. BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar presided over the program.
Emeritus Professor and Ex-VC of BAU Prof Dr Md Sattar Mondal delivered keynote speech at the program.
After independence, many people said that Bangladesh could not survive for over population but now Bangladesh are sufficient in food. Food sufficient is now the achievement of agriculturist.
After food sufficient, nutrition and safe food are the two challenges for our country, said agiculture minister.
He also added that, to achieve sustainable development goal we have to commercialize agriculture. Industry and agriculture should be increased side by side for developing Bangladesh as a wealthy nation.
On 13 February, 1973 Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came to BAU campus to attend convocation as a chief guest. On that day, Bangabandhu declared agricultural graduates as a first-class status in civil service. Graduates from agricultural universities were regarded as second-class officials prior to that, although doctors and engineers enjoyed the status of first-class officials. – BAU Correspondent
