A court here sent BNP’s Kushtia-1 candidate Reza Ahmed Bachchu to jail in a case filed over the possession of illegal firearms and explosives on Wednesday.
Bachchu surrendered before the court earlier in the day and sought bail. But District and Sessions Judge Arup Kumar Goswami rejected his petition, said Public Prosecutor Anup Kumar Nandi.The BNP candidate was on an eight-week interim bail, he added.
Bangladesh’s next parliamentary election is scheduled for December 30.BNP’s Kushtia unit General Secretary Prof Sohrab Uddin accused the law enforcement of arresting their activists and implicating them in “false” cases.“Awami League plans to stage a rigged election and stay in power,” he said.
