Launch Suravi-7 caught in storm, runs aground

Triple deck launch MV Suravi-7 remains stranded on shoal since Thursday night after caught in storm on way to Dhaka from Barisal.Reazul Kabir, director Crescent Navigation, owner of the Suravi Launch fleet, said the vessel after departing Barisal port about 9:00 pm
Thursday night for Dhaka Sadarghat caught in storm.
The crews for safety of the vessel and passengers stranded on the shoal at Pashurikathi near Charmonai on Kirtankhola River 10:30 pm.
The  passengers were evacuated  by trawler to Barisal on Friday morning after attempts to salvage the launch failed, the launch
company sources said.
Ashraf Hossain, deputy director, conservancy and piloting of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authourity Barisal office , said
BIWTA tug-boat ‘Agrajatra’ sent to the spot about 12:30 am early Friday after informed about the incident and two attempts for
salvaging the vessel during high-tide, failed.
He after visiting the spot on Friday said root canal needed to  be excavated for salvaging the vessel.
