LDCs must look for being linked with BRICS: ERD Secy

Dhaka is keen on pursuing aid effective development partnership setting its future development agenda, said Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Abul Kalam Azad on Saturday.   Expressing pessimism about the discharge of the official development assistance (ODA) committed by the developed countries to the least developed countries (LDCs), he said the LDCs must find out a way to be linked with the emerging donors in the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa).
He pointed out that the global architecture of resources has been changing, and there is a need for pursuing a ‘triangular cooperation’ – which is a new form of global partnership among the global north, the south and the emerging economies.
The remarks were made at a press conference at the ERD ahead of a three-day Asia Workshop on the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, beginning here on Sunday.   Government representatives from a number of countries in the Asia Pacific, including Indonesia, South Korea, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Mongolia, Myanmar, Afghanistan, the Maldives, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Timor Liste, members of the Global Partnership Steering Committee and delegates from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECT) will participate in the workshop.
Dhaka is hosting the workshop to discuss ways to enhance development cooperation among the Asian countries, and recommendations gathered in the workshop will be presented in the upcoming Global Partnership Ministerial Meeting in Mexico next year. – UNB
