‘Let us be hanged then’

Students at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have demonstrated demanding death penalty for Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant General Secretary Abdul Quader Molla.

Demonstrations in CUET began on Wednesday, a day after International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced the Jamaat leader to life imprisonment for committing crimes against humanity during 1971 War of Liberation against Pakistan. The students in the morning erected a hanging post at ‘Shaheed Minar’ on the campus and a student wore the hangman’s noose around the neck as a symbol of protest against Tuesday’s verdict. The poster in the students’ hand read – “If Quader Molla is not hanged, then let us hang ourselves.”The students earlier formed a human chain in the University’s ‘Golchottor’ area in demand of a death verdict for Molla who was found guilty of killing and other serious crimes.Several leaders belonging to various student organisations in CUET addressed a rally that followed the human chain protest. They also demanded authorities ban all political parties based on religion.bdnews24.com
