Lightning, storm kill 6 damage property in districts

Another thunderbolt killed two kids in Kamalgonj upazila of the district on Sunday around 12pm. Officer-in-Charge of Kamalgonj police station, Nihar Ranjon Nath, said, Kids are Sunil (13) son of Babul and Gonesh (15) son of Suja of Patrokhola Tea Estate in Madhobpur  Union was struck by lightning during heavy downpour and was spot dead. More than 100 houses were damaged as a nor’wester lashed in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar early yesterday.
Several people were also injured as the storm, accompanied by heavy rains, hit the upazila in the wee hours. Farmer Toabur Rahman said boro crops in around 50 hectares of land have been submerged in Keolar Haor in the last few days’ heavy rains.
Many people of Patanusha village in the upazila said many families are now left with no option but to live under the open sky as their houses were flattened during the fury of storm.
Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Jahidul Islam Mian visited the spots and distributed cash and relief goods among the victim families.
One person was killed and 20 others were injured near the district Border Guard Bangladesh camp as a nor’ wester swept over the district town on Sunday evening.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Police said the man died on the spot when a mehgani tree being uprooted by the storm that ripped through the area at 7.00pm fell on a Jhenidah-bound bus from Chuadanga he was travelling by.
The tree collapse also left several other passengers of the bus injured.
On information, firefighters from Chuadanga fire service rushed in.
They with the help of locals rescued other passengers.
Among the injured, nine were admitted to Chuadanga sadar hospital.
