Long Distance Swimming: Faisal, Tumpa emerge champions

Dhaka – Faisal Ahmed of Bangladesh Army emerged men’s champions in the 16th National Long Distance Swimming Competition’ 2019 covering a distance of 13 meters in two hours eight minutes at the Kaptai Lake on Tuesday. Mohammad Kajol Mia of Ichamati Swimming Club (Pabna) and Palash Chowdhury of Bangladesh Navy became runner-up and 3rd respectively.

In women’s category, Sonia Aktar Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy clinched the title covering a distance of 10-meter in one hour 43 minutes.

Romana Aktar of Bangladesh Army and Mukti Khatun of Bangladesh Ansar finished runner-up and third respectively.

The competition began at 10 am from Boradum Bazar and concluded at BNS Shaheed Moazzam boatpool of Kaptai Lake.

Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin was the chief guest in the day’s meet an later he distributed prizes. Commander of Chattogram Naval Region Rear Admiral M Abu Ashraf was also present as special guest.

The champions of both the men’s and women’s categories received prize money of Tk 10,000 each while the runners-up and 3rd placed holders received Tk 7,000 and Tk 5,000 respectively.

The winners of the competition will participate in the upcoming 80-meter swimming competition in Chennai, India.

Earlier on morning, a total of fourteen swimmers — 8 male and 6 female swimmers — took part in the day long competition under joint supervision of Bangladesh Swimming Federation and Bangladesh Navy.UNB
