Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday hinted to ban selling of Maggi noodles in Bangladesh.
“Further experiment is required to take final decision to ban selling magi noodles in Bangladesh,” he added while taking with the reporters at secretariat.“After receiving all necessary experimental report from product quality testing organisations, the decision will be taken,” he added.
Meanwhile food group Nestle withdrew Maggi noodles from sale in India and Singapore due to “an environment of confusion for consumers”, following a food scare sparked by reports of excess lead in some packets of the popular instant snack.
Tofail said Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of Dhaka University has undertaken to test maggi noodles.
If these experiments would identify overwhelming evidence of the food products being unsafe and hazardous for human consumption, then selling of magi noodles will be banned, Tofail said.
About the test report of BCSIR commerce minister said after receiving all reports respective organisation, the result will be disclosed at a time. Staff Reporter
