An accused in an abduction case was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police on Eidgaon-Eidgarh road at Panerphara Dhala in Sadar upazila early Monday.The deceased was identified as Rashid Ahammad, 28, son of Golam Taher, a resident of Rajghat in Sadar upazila.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in Ramu upazila and arrested Rashid at about 3:30 am, said sub-inspector Minhaz, in-charge of Eidgaon Police Camp.When the law enforcers along with Rashid reached Panerphara Dhala on Eidgaon-Eidgarh road in Sadar upazila, Rashid’s cohorts opened fire at police, forcing them to fire back which triggered a gunfight.Rashid was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his other associates managed to flee. -UNB, Cox’s Bazar
