A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to 14 years’ imprisonment for violating a girl.
The court also fined the convict, Saban Ali Sardar, son of Chand Ali Sardar of Hajrakati
village in Keshobpur upazila, Tk5,000, and in default, he will have to suffer one year
more in jail.
According to the prosecution, Saban Ali had developed a relationship of love with the
girl, a resident of Barondali village in the upazila.
On June 29, 2004, he took her to nearby Saroskati village saying to show her dredging
machine there.
In the evening, Saban Ali, aided by one Abdul Quader Sardar, raped the girl in a crop
field at the village.
Hearing her scream, villagers caught Saban Ali red handed.
They handed him over to police along with the victim.
However, his associate managed to escape the scene.
Later, the girl filed a case with Jessore Women and Children Repression Prevention
Tribunal accusing the two.
Quader was exonerated during charge framing in the case.
After examining all evidence and witnesses, SM Abdus Salam, judge of the tribunal,
pronounced the verdict against Saban Ali in absentia.
The court also issued an arrest warrant against him. -UNB, Benapole (Jessore)
