Man killed in Sunamganj clash over fishing

A man was killed and 30 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over fishing in a water body in Sadar (South) upazila on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Tafazzul Hossain, 45, son of Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Paikapan village of the upazila.Quoting locals, police said an altercation took place between the two groups of Paikapan and Asampur villages over fishing in a haor (water body) at Jamtala village in the afternoon.Later, both the groups, equipped with lethal weapons, swooped on each other.At one stage, a villager of Asampur village opened fire on men of Paikapan.Thirty-one people on both sides were injured, including Tafazzul with bullets.Of the injured, critically three were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where Tafazzal succumbed to his injuries at about 9:00 pm.Harunur Rashid, superintendent of police, confirmed the incident.Informed, police visited the spot next morning.A case was filed in this connection. -UNB, Sunamganj
